The best time to act is now!

My Zero Carbon Annual Report 2022/23:

As the Project Manager of My Zero Carbon, I am thrilled to share the achievements and milestones from our 2022/23 annual report. There has been significant growth and impactful actions this year. We continue enabling and encouraging people like you to take climate action. We offer hope through practical solutions.

Highlights of 2022/23

1. Enhanced Social Media Impact
Our social media presence saw remarkable expansion, especially on Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok. With over 10,000 posts across platforms, we now have a following of 8,190 people. Our focus on embedding videos directly into tweets boosted engagement.  We had 12,588 video views on Twitter alone. This approach has been important for spreading our climate action messages far and wide an in an effective way.

2. Diverse and Engaging Video Content
Video production remained a cornerstone of our outreach strategy. We created five new videos. This included included innovative formats such as climate change jokes and cartoons and practical DIY insulation tips. We produced informative race charts on accumulated carbon emissions. These efforts resulted in high engagement rates. Our most popular video on insulation foil DIY tips garnering 12,682 impressions and significant retweets and likes.

3. Comprehensive Image and Data Visualizations
We expanded our image bank to over 1,100 climate-related images and graphics. We enhanced our visual storytelling capabilities. This includes over 180 pieces of raw video footage and animations. Our use of tools like Flourish for data visualization enabled us to present complex climate data in an accessible and compelling manner.

4. Personal Climate Action Journey
A core element of My Zero Carbon is sharing my personal journey in reducing my carbon footprint by two-thirds. This year, I further decreased my footprint to 1.6 tons of CO2, down from the UK average of 6.5 tons per person. My key actions included shifting towards a vegan diet, improving home insulation, adopting a more fuel-efficient driving style, and maximizing the use of solar energy.

5. Financial Sustainability and Community Support
Our project continued to rely heavily on pro-bono contributions and community support. We raised modest funds through platforms like Patreon. We received substantial in-kind support, allowing us to sustain and expand our activities despite minimal cash expenditures.

Our online activity highlights two critical messages:

1. Urgent Climate Action is Imperative
We must take immediate and decisive actions to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change. The time for complacency is over. Every individual and community action counts in this global fight.

2. Hope through Practical Solutions
Despite the daunting challenges, there is hope. We have the solutions—be it through innovative technologies, simple lifestyle changes, or community-driven initiatives. We share practical, actionable information. This empowers individuals to contribute to climate action in a meaningful way.

As we look ahead to 2023/24, we are committed to further expanding our reach and impact. We will continue to produce engaging content. We will encourage community involvement and drive the message that collective action can indeed pave the way for a sustainable future.

Join us in this journey towards zero carbon. Together, we can make a difference.
