Annual Report 2023/24 - Personal Reflections from the Project Manager

As we wrap up another remarkable year for My Zero Carbon, I am filled with a sense of accomplishment and anticipation. The journey through 2023/24 has been both challenging and rewarding, marked by significant milestones that reflect our dedication to climate action and community engagement.

 

Key Achievements

This year, we achieved several notable successes that have elevated My Zero Carbon's impact:

1. Expansion to the BlueSky Platform: We broadened our social media presence by launching activities on the BlueSky platform, enhancing our reach and engagement.


2. Viral Video Success: Our YouTube channel saw unprecedented success, with our first video going viral, amassing over 16,000 views. This milestone demonstrated the power of our content to resonate with a wide audience.


3. Creative Outreach: We ventured into new creative territory with the release of our first music video, "I'm a Believer," a fun and upbeat song promoting climate action.


4. High-Impact Social Media Posts: We had individual posts on Twitter that garnered over 18,000 views, significantly amplifying our message.


5. Growing Follower Base: We celebrated reaching 10,000 followers on Twitter, a testament to the growing community committed to climate action.
6. Overall Video Views: Across all platforms, we reached an impressive 280,000 video views, showcasing the effectiveness of our multimedia approach.

 

Reflections on the Year

This year was not without its challenges. We continued to refine our communication strategies and develop new skills to enhance our social media impact. The learning curve was steep, but the results were worth the effort. Our focus on producing engaging, informative, and inspiring content set us apart from the often doom-laden climate change narrative, providing a hopeful and solutions-oriented perspective.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey has been witnessing the community's response. The feedback, encouragement, and active participation from our followers have been invaluable. It's clear that our efforts are making a difference, encouraging people to reduce their carbon footprints and engage more deeply with climate issues.

 

Looking Ahead: Goals for 2024/25

As we look forward to the upcoming year, our goals are ambitious yet grounded in our mission to drive meaningful climate action:

1. Increase Production of Original Content: We aim to boost our production of original material, including videos, images, and blog posts, to make up a larger proportion of our social media content.
2. Expand Video Strategies We plan to continue producing longer videos for YouTube, complemented by shorter clips for other social media platforms, to maximize engagement and reach.
3. Engage Diverse Audiences: We will expand our efforts on platforms like TikTok and Instagram to reach younger audiences, fostering a new generation of climate-conscious individuals.
4. Deepen Impact Analysis: Understanding the impact of our work is crucial. We will launch a social media monitoring survey to assess how our activities are influencing perceptions and behaviors around climate change.
5. Support Low Carbon Footprint Lifestyles: We will develop strategies to support individuals with already low carbon footprints in making further reductions, recognizing the unique challenges they face.

6. Create a registered charity, develop a fundraising strategy and secure a more sustainable future for My Zero Carbon.
